Hello, I am having a tough time separating the upper and lower mast after sailing. What’s the easiest way to get it apart? Should I be applying something to the mast to make it slide apart easier? Thanks for the advice!
I coat my mast sections with McLube Sailcoat. I try to do this every time I put the mast together. Also, make sure both mast sections are supported and straight when you try to pull them apart. The least lack of alignment can make the mast sections much harded to separate. I also spray the inside of the mast track with Sailcoat to help the main slide up and down better. Sailcoat is essentially what they use to release boat hulls from molds. It's very slippery, dries within seconds of application, and sticks tenatiously to surfaces. I also use it on the dolly bunks for the hull (but not for the ama or mast bunks), to help slide the boat on and off.
