After trying 2 Ritche Tactical compasses attached to the outer tramp with kayak mounts for the World Masters Games which were hopeless, I switched to the Raymarine Tacktick mounted on the mast bracket and would recommend either this or the Velocitek Prism as the twin screens mean you can read it from anywhere on the boat even when hiking out.
If you look at the post on the “anti-bobsledding “ fitting, you can see a photo of my compass in position. Some folks have worried about this location being too close to the mast, but that step fitting is nonmagnetic stainless, you can prove that with a magnet. I made a base from thin plexiglass, bent to the shape I wanted (keeping it level) using a heat gun. The compass is screwed to the base, the base is stuck on the boat with 3M marine adhesive, same stuff I use for hatch fittings (4200 or 5200, works very well). Hope that’s some help.

Thanks!
Model: That’s a Ritchie X-Port tactician XP-98W. Inexpensive, works well.
