Hello Roger and Luis, We had a fantastic Weta Fest in Ft. Walton Beach this weekend. High Winds every day. Sailing on the edge is very exhilarating. I fell over board yesterday but was able to hang on to the boat until a race committee rigid inflatable boat with two people on it pulled up next to my boat. One guy boarded my boat and pulled me back on board my boat, and then got back on the Race Committee boat. I finished that race in last place but I did pretty good considering time spent waiting for help. I tried to steer the boat into the wind to slow it down enough to climb back on board, but the tiller extension was under a hiking strap on the tramp so I could not steer into the wind.
It was even windier today and I was doing pretty good until I turtled when I was almost to the windward mark. I got hit by a very strong gust, I headed up and eased the main sheet but it was not enough to keep the boat up right. The gusts were well over 20 knots. The Ft Walton "full service" race committee actually had a Weta sailor on board who asked me if I wanted help righting the boat. I am not too proud to turn down help when it is offered. Weta sailor on the committee jumped in to help me right the boat and then we both sailed in together. He was crewing on a two person boat but the boat owner got sick and could not race today so his crew went out on one of the race committee boats, and ended up sailing with me back to the Ft. Walton Yacht Club after we righted the boat. After we got ashore he asked me if I wanted water. I said no. Then I asked my new friend if he wanted a beer. He said yes, so we both enjoyed a Florida Man IPA beer 9% alcohol to celebrate. --- Rick Upson, Rick's Small Sail Boats LLC, Weta Dealer for Florida and near by states.
